The University of Pittsburgh had the epiphany this morning that the rest of the football-watching American public had on Dave Wannstedt after his original head coaching stint with the Chicago Bears...
Dude is not a head coach.
There are many cases where great coordinators are just bad #1 guys for football teams. Gregg Williams is one, Wade Phillips is another, but they are certainly not alone on that list. Some guys just aren't cut out for the big hat.
Dave is CLEARLY one of those guys. And he has a really ridiculous looking mustache.
Dave's career can go one of two directions from this point. He can take a job as an Offensive Coordinator somewhere (the right decision) or continue to try and be a head coach (the wrong decision). If he pursues the head coaching option, expect to see Dave land at the high school level, as he's been a fucking catastrophe in the Pros and the NCAA.
This move by Pittsburgh has to have Norv Turner shaking in his boots. We can officially start the countdown to his San Diego execution.
