Carl Crawford has a long meeting with the Yankees
In a classic slow news cycle moment, many media outlets reported on Crawford's meeting with the Yankees. Basically, the long and short of it is that the media don't know dick about what went on in the meeting, other than the time it lasted. For all we know, Crawford could have brought an entourage with him, realized the Yankees had a good food spread and just hung out drinking coffee and eating danishes until his heart's content.
Verdict: Non Story. Come on people, LeBron met with every team in the NBA last off season and ended up doing exactly what we thought he was gonna do. This is a cock tease.
Paul Konerko signs extension with the White Sox
Konerko, who is a much better player than the fan fair he attacts, signs his last noteworthy contract, getting the White Sox to shell out $37.5mil for a guy who hit 39 home runs and batted .312 but never helped put asses in the seats at Comiskie. Konerko will make his $37.5mil over 3 years.
Verdict: How were more teams not interested in this guy? Ridiculously cheap for a guy who hit .312 and 39 HRs.
Carlos Pena to the Cubs
Pena got a 1 year deal for $10mil to play for the perennial loser Cubs. Pena, who hits for power (28 HRs last year) is coming off a staggeringly awful season, batting only .196 and striking out in about 1/3 or his at bats (158 times in 484 at bats). That, for the record, is an absolute stink bomb of a season. The more than washed up Jason Varitek batted .232. Just sayin'.
Verdict: Buyer Beware. Dude is washed up and a career .241 hitter. The window on this guy has passed. Typical Cubs pickup. Striving for mediocrity.
Pete Sampras robbed
Sampras had his trophies stolen out of a storage facility that he rents. Also included in the storage space was memorabilia.
Verdict: Sucks for Pete Sampras, the rest of us don't give a shit. The rest of us think to ourselves we wish we had so many awards that we needed a storage space to put all the crap in. Sorry dude, sucks to be you.
